John Slater
John Slater is a former President of the New Zealand National Party. For the past year he has been Chairman of the NBA and looks forward to continuing in this role to maintain and expand the success of Newmarket.
Jonathan Macdonald
I am a pharmacist in my own business here in Newmarket. I have always respected the NBA and what it has achieved for the precinct over the years. I am passionate about Newmarket and determined to keep it at the forefront of Auckland retail.
Treasurer
Carl Sowter
Carl Sowter became Treasurer of the NBA in 1998. He oversees the monthly and annual accounts, all IRD compliance issues, and input into team performance reviews. Carl has a wealth of knowledge regarding the association and dealings with Council.
Mark McDonough
Newmarket has a number of stores such as mine which are unique to the suburb. Let’s celebrate this uniqueness and show Newmarket as offering an eclectic and inclusive range of retail and services - a destination where people can purchase anything.
2007 - 2008
Four new board members were elected and a new constitution was adopted at the Newmarket Business Association’s AGM on 25 September at the Broadway Pub & Café, Osborne Street.
The new board members are Angela Daniel (Angela Daniel Jewellery); Ian Goodall (160 Broadway Partnership); Kerri Hughes (Westfield 277); and Nicky Shore (Off Wax/Brow Bar).
Re-elected were Michael Holmes (The Eyesite); Jonathan Macdonald (Unichem on Broadway); and Mark McDonough (Zarbo Delicatessen & Café). Chairman John Slater (Creazioni Kitchens) was reappointed for a third year, while Carl Sowter (Marley Loft Ltd) was re-appointed to serve an 11th year as Treasurer.
I opened my flagship jewellery store on Nuffield Street just over two years ago. Since then I have opened three other stores in Sylvia Park, Albany and the most recently in Downtown Auckland.
With the recent experience of opening a new business and entering into in the exciting development of Osborne St, I am excited to be part of creating more opportunities for Newmarket. I hope I can bring a fresh perspective to the association.
Kerrie Hughes
I bring to the Newmarket Business Association a strong background in retail operations, financial and commercial management and proven skills in strategic planning.
Michael Holmes
Michael is the owner of the Eye Site in Teed Street. Running a business in one of Newmarket’s busiest side streets has given him a strong understanding of the area’s business environment. Michael looks forward to helping the area grow.
Ian Goodall
We have carried out a significant number of development projects in Newmarket, several of which we have retained. My office has been located in Newmarket since 1988 (on a piece of land that we purchased from the then Mayor of Newmarket, David Lumsden).
