Public Feedback on rail upgrade sought

The Auckland Regional Transport Authority has called for tenders, seeking a consultant to provide detailed design and construction management services for the key above track elements of the new Newmarket station. This includes design of the elevated concourse, station access and canopies.
ARTA and Ontrack held public open days at the Jubilee Building, 545 Parnell Road on April 27 and April 28. Last month they stated that work on the rail redevelopment will start later this year.
Amongst many things, officials are seeking feedback on the construction of temporary platforms on Kingdon Street and Remuera Road, behind the former Mercury Energy building.
"One of our concerns at the moment is that officials are proposing to close Kingdon Street to vehicle traffic for the duration of the construction period. Kingdon Street is the key street linking Khyber Pass Road and Carlton Gore Road. Affected businesses want us to fight to keep Kingdon Street open and we will,” said Cameron Brewer, General Manager of the Newmarket Business Association.
