Great response to People's Choice Award
3 October 2008
Last month 33 garments designed and constructed by those who had entered the “Looking to the Future – Newmarket Young Designer Award” were displayed in stores and banks in Newmarket. This was a great opportunity for our young designers to showcase their work publicly. For many it was the first time they’ve had a public audience and significant public interest in a number of the garments was very encouraging.
The People’s Choice Award coincided with Fashion Week which was a fitting tribute to the young designers and was an excellent fit with the overall Newmarket brand.
We encouraged people through radio advertising, email and press releases to come along and support these designers by simply taking the time to have a look. For those that may have been too busy to visit all the stores a full photographic display was set up at the Rialto Centre for voting also. As a small enticement everyone who voted went into the draw to be in to win a $500 voucher from the Newmarket store of their choice. The winner of the $500 voucher was Christine Soranson who voted for Laura Allen who’s garment was displayed at The National Bank. Voting was so well supported by both shoppers and Newmarket Business Association members that a re-print of entry forms was required within the first week of the competition. We are so grateful to the retailers and the four major banks in Newmarket who generously provided space for the mannequins.
Thanks to ASB, ANZ, BNZ, National Bank, The Rialto Centre, Westfield 277, House of Travel, Taylor Boutique, Muse, Stenbeck and Morse, Kevin Berkahn, The Poi Room, Winks, Off Wax/Brow Bar, Modes of Broadway, Menon, Ricochet, and Vincent.
